Pirtek Birmingham flushed with success at EMR

16 June, 2017

Maintenance

Given the challenging environment that the hydraulic hoses are working in, Connell will be recommending that EMR stores a range of pre-flushed hoses in its on-site storeroom, ready for use, in the event of a hose failure. This will reduce the company’s downtime and reduce the risk of system failure caused by contaminants entering the hydraulic system.

Pirtek Birmingham will continue to service the site, as it has been doing for the past 20+ years and will carry out regular checks for general wear and tear on the hydraulic installation.

Background

Connell provided the background behind Pirtek Birmingham’s hydraulic hose flushing service. “Our hydraulic hose flushing service was first introduced in 2015 after we were contacted by a company that wanted to place an order for a large amount of hydraulic hoses which needed to be flushed prior to delivery. We struggled to outsource the flushing element of the order but eventually found a company that was able to rise to the task, but the process made me realise that there was a gap in the market for this type of service.”

Pirtek Birmingham’s decision to source its own hydraulic hose flushing rig was made shortly after recognising this market opportunity, when the company was contacted by an OEM supplier, who had an MOD customer that required a large number of hoses, again with the proviso that they all had to be fully flushed before delivery.

Connell continued the story. “Antech Hydraulics built a flushing rig for us in mid-2015, and we have been supplying flushed hoses to this customer ever since; as well as to a number of other firms that have a requirement for flushed hoses as part of their preventative maintenance plans.”
