Make sure your company has its say….…and get involved with the BFPA technical committees

30 October, 2015

The growing influence of the British Fluid Power Association (BFPA) is now internationally acknowledged. Here in the UK the BFPA runs a number of important committees to which many members individually give their time freely. There in valuable experience and knowledge is used to help frame national legislation that is designed to harmonise and raise standards, safety and professionalism within the industry.

On the world stage the BFPA helps frame international legislation with much the same name. Again, BFPA industry experts help formulate legislation whilst others sit on the committees. The tireless effort of these individuals, whose work is often voluntary, has to be applauded for the benefits it brings for all who work with fluid power.

BFPA technical committee structure

The BFPA acts as external Secretariat on behalf of the British Standards Institution (BSI) representing fluid power systems and pneumatic technologies.

This means that no fluid power standard, whether British (BS), European (EN) or international (ISO) is developed or published without a BFPA technical committee having had an input or, in many cases, been significant in its production.

The BFPA runs nine technical committees, all of which are mirror committees aligned to the International standards organisation.

The committees rely upon volunteers from within the industry for technical input.

BFPA technical committees cover the following subjects:

• Accumulators.

• Cylinders.

• Connectors and hoses.

• Control components.

• Contamination control.

• Seals.

• Product testing.

• Systems.

• Fluids.

Make sure your company has its say

1. Have an influence on what is happening to your technology as it happens.

2. Prevent those with little or no knowledge of the fluid power industry inflicting regulation which may have a detrimental effect.

3. The committees or a forum for intellectual exchange on the specific topic with which they are charged, in a non-commercial environment.

4. There is a modest time commitment of two or three meetings per year.

5. Full administrative support is provided from the BFPA office; the committee members are there for technical knowledge.

6. UK engineering must keep a voice in the international arena; by this means we ensure that it does.
