The seminar will cover all aspects of contamination control including:
✦Contamination control – an overview
✦Contamination control – how it can save you money
✦Filter element technology
✦MP Filtri product range
✦Hands on experience
✦Case studies
Whilst contamination control is everyone’s responsibility within the manufacturing cycle, the seminar is ideal for any design, service or project engineer/manager as well as quality managers.
BROWNELL has developed a range of Hydraulic Reservoir Breathers to protect the contents of reservoir and storage vessels against water contamination. The water contamination of hydraulic oil can cause the failure of hydraulic systems.
These rechargeable units also minimise pressure differential build up and odour emissions. The design of the dryers incorporates excellent weather protection, making them suitable for external applications.
An active desiccant bed retains any moisture before it can enter the vessel. Field trials have proven that most existing moisture vapour contained within a vessel is quickly removed when these vent dryers are fitted. Hydrated Reservoir Breathers will maintain the moisture concentration to acceptable levels.
The largest crane system constructed to date by J D NEUHAUS has been delivered to Westcon Lofteteknikk AS (WCL) of Norway for use on an offshore drilling rig. The semi portal design comprises an A-frame supporting twin overhead horizontal track beams providing a 7.5 metre span.
The crane has an approximate height of 11.5 metres with a total weight of 32 tonnes. It is equipped with JDN hydraulic EH 40-H monorail hoists operating on each of the twin beams, each hoist providing an individual lift capacity of 40 tonnes. These hoists can be operated individually or simultaneously from one control, and when used in conjunction a total lift of 80 tonnes is possible with a 12 metre lift height being available. A JDN Profi 6 TI-H hoist with 6 tonne lift capacity is also provided to cover other operational or service requirements.
The whole energy supply system, which was designed and manufactured by JDN, incorporates four hydraulic drives provided for the crane travel movements. An electro-hydraulic switch cabinet is also mounted on the access gangway. The primary radio crane controls also have a back-up system fitted to cover any radio control panel failure. Manual operation is also accommodated to cover any unscheduled loss or failure of the electric power supply.
IMPRESS SENSORS & SYSTEMS LTD has expanded its SQ range of mechanical pressure switches to include a high pressure series, which is adjustable between 50 and 100 bar.
The new SQ high range mechanical gauge pressure switches are available in three versions: the cost effective SQ275-RH1 zinc-plated SPDT (single pole, double throw) pressure switch; the SQ276-RH1 stainless steel SPDT version for media compatibility; and the SQ27U-RH1 brass SPDT pressure switch. All three switches are user-adjustable between 50 and 100 bar.
The switches are said to be a cost effective, robust option for OEMS and end users across a diverse range of process control applications, including pressure control for piping systems, lubrication systems, hydraulics and pneumatics and air compressors.

Pharmaceutical and food process lines which are required to operate at the highest hygiene levels, utilise pure, high temperature aggressive water (WFI) systems for their SIP (Steam in Place) and CIP (Clean in Place) processes. The operation of repeated steam recycling, however, places severe demands upon any sealing products incorporated within control valves utilised in the process pipework.
These valves are widely used to control flow, pressure and temperature of fluid media within the system. For example, some of the most critical steps in pharmaceuticals manufacture involve sterilisation with various methods including high temperature saturated steam, strong acidic or basic cleaning solutions and even strong oxidizing media such as ethylene oxide and ozone.
DICHTOMATIK LTD, an official Dupont licensee, is able to supply the Kalrez 6221 perfluorelastomer compound O-rings and other sealing profiles including custom shapes. These products are thermally stable up to 260°C (500°F), and also suitable for stage II sterilisation application processes where other elastomers can lose their sealing capabilities. They have been developed specifically to maintain outstanding reliability while ensuring high level sealing performance in pharmaceutical and food production processes. They maintain the validation of cleanliness-critical operating conditions and overcome degradation difficulties (chemical, thermal and/or mechanical) associated with conventional sealing materials.
TF AUTOMATION received an early Christmas

The normal caravan over-run braking system relies on the tow vehicle’s brakes and deceleration to compress the tow hitch and apply the caravan brakes. This means there is a delay before the caravan brakes are applied. Now a new system is available that applies the caravan brakes as soon as the stop light circuit on the car is energised. Braking is quicker and more effective.
The new system is installed on the trailer and uses pressurised air to operate an actuator that applies the trailer brakes using the existing rods and linkages. The air supply from the on-board compressor is controlled by an ASCO NUMATICS sub-miniature solenoid valve. This is used to direct air to the brake actuator when the towing vehicle’s brake circuit is energised and release the pressure when circuit is de-energised. An ASCO Numatics pressure switch limits the maximum pressure in the system preventing it from locking the caravan wheels. Pressure is maintained in the system using an ASCO Numatics non-return valve which prevents air being released back through to the compressor.
Called Insync Brake Assist (IBA), the braking system was developed by experienced caravanner Charles Irving and is now being manufactured and marketed by Insync Systems Ltd.
The ASCO Numatics valve is ideally suited to this demanding application. It features a stainless steel core tube which provides exceptional resistance to humidity and corrosion. With a service life of up to 20 million cycles, the valve is designed for applications that require fast (5-10ms) and frequent operation.
