BEWARE THREAT OF COUNTERFEIT BEARINGS WARNS BRAMMER

Brammer has reminded UK manufacturing companies of the threat posed by counterfeit engineering spares and the importance of only sourcing spares through authorised distributors. The timely advice follows a recent court order in France, which saw a distributor hit with swingeing fines after being found guilty of selling counterfeit SKF bearings. This incident was the latest in a series of recent counterfeit bearing seizures by the authorities across Europe. Brammer is warning companies in all industry sectors to be cautious when sourcing bearings, and other engineering components, as the increasing rate of seizure indicates a growing threat from counterfeiters seeking to exploit these challenging economic times. CHOOSING THE RIGHT VALVE LOCKING DEVICE

KTR COUPLINGS INTRODUCES THE BOWex® FLE-PAC!

BoWex® FLE-PAC couplings are torsionally rigid curved-tooth flange couplings reinforced with the material combination of nylon and steel. The flange of the coupling consists of a compound of steel and carbon fibre-reinforced nylon offering better properties of wear resulting in a considerably longer service life. NEW VIBRATION LEGISLATION

BRAMMER is warning UK industry about the need to limit employees’ exposure to hand-arm vibration caused by older equipment, in the light of legislation effective from July this year. The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 require employers to ensure their staff are not exposed to a daily ‘exposure action value’ above 2.5m/s2 or an overall exposure limit value of 5m/s2. Equipment purchased since that date must already comply with these limits – however, for equipment purchased before 6 July 2007, the new regulations take effect from 6 July 2010. The Regulations apply to a number of areas including the use of hand-held powered tools and equipment. Excessive exposure to vibration can increase the risk of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome.

WIRELESS NETWORK PROVIDES MONITORING AND CONTROL

A scalable wireless network that can monitor and control I/O functions or provide serial communication at up to 56 locations has been introduced by BANNER ENGINEERING. The new SureCross DX80 product line replaces costly wiring in a wide range of industrial, agricultural, power generation, water supply and waste disposal applications. Discrete, serial and analog devices that can be controlled by the network include ultrasonic and photoelectric sensors, pumps, counters, thermocouple and RTD temperature sensors. The remote nodes gather data and/or transmit control commands between the sensors or other devices and a central Gateway.
